Citronella has been grown for centuries usually on unfertile land in the coastal regions. There are 2 to 3 harvests per year and the citronella grass is sun-dried for about three days after harvesting prior to distillation. The yields average 0.7%, being higher in the dry season and lower in the rainy season.
The main chemical constituents are citronellol, geraniol and citronellal.
Method of Extraction :
It is distilled by steam distillation method of the grass.
